Food, Safety & Privacy Commitments

Boost Your Lunch works with schools, school councils, families, and food partners to support Ontario school food expectations, local school rules, practical student safety, and responsible handling of family and student information.

PPM 150

Ontario Policy/Program Memorandum 150 sets nutrition standards for food and beverages sold in publicly funded elementary and secondary schools. Where a school lunch program is expected to follow PPM 150, we work with the school and participating vendors to support those standards.

Nutrition Categories

Menu planning is reviewed with the school context in mind. The practical goal is to favour compliant everyday options, avoid items that are not permitted for regular school sale, and respect any special-event decisions made by the school principal.

Ontario implementation guides

Allergy Awareness

Allergy and anaphylaxis procedures are led by each school and school board. We support those procedures by sharing menu information when requested, following school-specific restrictions we are given, and encouraging families to contact the school directly about individual student needs.

Food Handling

We expect participating food providers to operate under applicable food premises and public health requirements. Delivery and distribution practices are coordinated with each school so lunches arrive organized, labelled, and ready for the school day.

Privacy & Student Information

We collect and use family and student information only for practical program purposes, such as processing orders, preparing labels, coordinating delivery, supporting customer service, and helping schools administer their lunch program.

How We Apply This

School-specific setup Menus, vendors, delivery days, and ordering rules are configured for each participating school.
Vendor coordination We share expectations with food partners and adjust available items when a school requires changes.
Clear family information Families choose from the options approved for their selected school and ordering date.
Responsive updates If a school, board, vendor, or public health authority gives us a new instruction, we update the program accordingly.

Privacy Practices

Limited collection We ask for the information needed to run the program, including family contact details, student name, school, teacher, order details, and allergy or dietary notes provided by the family.
Program use only Student and family information is used to fulfill lunch orders, provide support, prevent duplicate or missed orders, issue credits or refunds, and coordinate with the appropriate school or food provider.
Controlled sharing Information is shared only where needed for the lunch program, such as with participating schools, approved food providers, delivery support, payment processors, or technical service providers.
Safeguards We use administrative and technical safeguards intended to protect personal information and limit access to people and service providers who need it for their role.
Access and correction Families may contact us to ask about their personal information, request a correction, or ask questions about how their information is handled.
Retention We keep order and program records only as long as needed for operations, customer service, accounting, legal, and school program administration purposes.

Privacy Laws We Keep in Mind

As a private organization, Boost Your Lunch is mindful of Canadian private-sector privacy expectations, including PIPEDA, when collecting, using, or disclosing personal information in connection with our services. Schools and school boards may also have their own obligations for student information under Ontario privacy and education rules, including MFIPPA. We work with participating schools to respect the instructions and limits that apply to their program.

A Short Note

Final approval of school programs, special-event days, allergy procedures, privacy instructions, and board-specific requirements remains with the school, principal, and school board.
